Manuel Silva was the son of immigrants from the Azores, Joseph "Joe" Silva and Anna Nunes. The highest grade he completed in school was 5th grade, but he worked as a truck driver for the vegetable growers in Oceano and owned his own truck as well as his own home. He and Ada married on July 19, 1919 and had three children and several grandchildren. He was respected and liked by family and friends.
