Eddie was born to Haywood Kirkland Brown, Sr. and Willie Mae Lewis Brown in Madison, Mississippi on 5 July 1950. Eddie graduated Rosa A. Scott High School as the Valedictorian of the Class of 1968.

Eddie attended Houston Baptist University from 1968 to 1972, graduating in 1972. Eddie was a star basketball player for the HBU Huskies. His #22 jersey was retired in 2014. His record for most free throws still stands in 2016 since 1968. Eddie was entered into the Hall of Honor in 2006 at HBU.

Eddie was the All Time Career Leader in Scoring with 1,939 pts. in 1968-1972. He is the highest scoring point member in the 1,000 Point Club. His scoring average was 20.8 for 1968-1969 and 18.8 for 1969-1972. Eddie had the Most Free Throws (20) in a Single Game in 1968-1969 when HBU played Sam Houston State. Eddie is a member of the 40 Point Club earned in 1968-1969 and five time member of the 30 Point Club, 1968-1971. Eddie was the scoring leader in 1968-1969 with 582 point and in 1970-1971 with 484 points.

Eddie was chosen by HBU Basketball to serve on the 2013-14 Steering Committee of the Tip-Off Club. He was very proud of this role.

"Brown, a 6-5 wing out of Madison, Mississippi, was a four-year letterman for the Huskies from 1968-1972 and is the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,939 points. He was also a proud graduate of HBU, earning his degree in four years and an U.S. Army veteran. In 2014-5 season, he was honored as part of the 1970s All-Decade Team."

To correct HBU, Eddie was a "6-7 wing"!!

After college, Eddie served in the U.S. Army attaining the rank of Sergeant. Eddie was in the 82nd Airborne Division, 75th Ranger RGT, Special Forces and served in Vietnam. Eddie earned the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. His service dates are 24 MAY 1974 to 19 MAY 1978. Eddie talked about rappelling out of helicopters in Vietnam. Eddie mentioned to me that he also drove for Alexander Haig, Jr. mostly in Washington, D.C. to the Pentagon and other locations.

While in the Army, Eddie played basketball for the U.S. Army, U.S. Department of Defense, Armed Forces Sports, All Army, S.H.A.P.E. and CISM teams. Eddie was subjected to a court-martial by a female Captain that did not understand he was allowed to leave to play basketball. The charges against Eddie were dismissed and he continued to play basketball while in the U.S. Army.

Although Eddie received a college degree, he did not want to be a U.S. Army officer, he chose to be enlisted.

In his sunset years, Eddie worked at Reliant Park/Stadium for the Texans Football Team, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and later at the Federal Building in Downtown Houston, keeping people safe.

Eddie had two brothers, Haywood Kirkland Brown, Jr. and Sandy Freeman Brown (deceased 2010). Eddie had three sisters, Connie Lynette, Alice M., both of Madison, MS, and Tennessee Denise Brown, of Houston, TX.

Eddie leaves behind his wife, San Jose, and his children, Tarina, Ashley, and Casey. He was very proud of his grandbaby, "TuTu" Tamia, Tarina's daughter.

Eddie spoke often of his Aunt Mamie Howie, Bronx, NY and Uncle Maurice Brown, NYC, NY. He also had a great Aunt Ella Bennett of Jackson, MS. Godfather William E. (Patrica) Welsh of Houston, TX.

Eddie was previously married to a lovely Italian woman while in Europe. I believe they had a child(ren), however they were divorced after returning to the U.S.A.

Eddie also leaves behind his beloved friends, Robert Paige "Baby Face", formerly of the Harlem Globetrotters, E.C. Coleman, Jim Skaggs and many more basketball players that I never met. Eddie is a legend; gone but not forgotten. The best friend you could ever ask for. Always had your back.

Eddie suffered from PTSD, but cancer, in the left side of his neck, caused his death. After months of treatment at the Houston VA Hospital, he was moved into the nursing home in September 2015, where he suffered and struggled until his passing.

Eddie's memorial was held at the Troy B. Smith Funeral Home, Houston, TX, on 20 FEB 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

Eddie had many stories to tell. His best stories started with "Haywood said...", speaking about some very important wisdom learned from his dad.

And in true Eddie form, "God Bless. We gone!"

If I have forgotten to mention anyone of Eddie's family or friends, it was not intentional.
