Samuel Avery Sanders, age 91, passed away on February 2, 2014 at his residence. He was a native of Bedford County, but lived most of his life in Rutherford County. He retired from Alvin C. York Medical Center, a former employee of Lane Lumber Company and also a farmer. He was a member of 612 Tank Battalion in the U. S. Army during WWII. He was a faithful customer of the South Church Street Cracker Barrel for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Baptist Faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Emma Sanders, son, Phillip Mitchel Sanders, brother, Edmund Sanders, sister, Ruth Murphy, and son-in-law, Jimmie Lynn Kelton. He is survived by his wife, Sara Frances Ross Sanders, daughter, Dianne Kelton, son, Steve A. (Judy) Sanders, brother, Leslie (Jo Anne) Sanders, five grandchildren, Melissa(Tony) Galligani, Christopher (Morgane) Davis, Jonathan Sanders, Candice (Matt) Northcutt, and Jessica Sanders, four great-grandchildren, Tyler Galligani, Chloe, Celina and Kinley Northcutt, and several nieces and nephews.
