Wife of Asa Beebe Cross. He studied architecture in the 1850s in Philadelphia and then in St. Louis. In 1857 he came to Kansas City as a lumber dealer-architect. Some of his projects still standing are the Harvey Vaile mansion in Independence, Missouri. In Kansas City, Missouri the 1871-2 remodeling and enlargement of Seth Ward's fine Greek Revival-style farmhouse at 1032 West 55th, the old St. Patrick's Cathedral at 800 Cherry Street, with its twin belfries, the old Board of Trade at 502 Delaware Street, the Pacific House Hotel at 401 Delaware Street with a gracefully arched ironwork facade. It was there that Civil War General Thomas Ewing was headquartered when he issued his infamous Order No. 11.
