Delores "Dee" Maxine Smith - Big Bear Grizzly - (Apr/8/2009)
Published: Thursday, April 2, 2009 11:26 AM PDT
Delores "Dee" Maxine Smith, 57, passed on to a better place on March 23, 2009, in Big Bear Lake, Calif. Born on July 8, 1951, in Springfield, Ill., Dee moved to California with the family of a close friend in 1968 from Springfield, Ill., and met her future husband in civics class at Camarillo High School, graduating in 1969. She was a vibrant and gregarious person with a warm smile and a good sense of humor who touched many lives that are better for having known her. She loved to travel and was an expert with a crochet hook and among her many awards were two Best of Show in last year's San Bernardino County Fair and the Sweepstakes Award won previously at the Ventura County Fair.

Dee was a preschool teacher for over 30 years, helping to raise hundreds of other people's children while she was raising her own. She was retired in 2007 making a home in Big Bear with her husband in a house they've owned since 1990. She loved it up here and was planning to grow old in these mountains.

Dee is survived by her husband of 38 years; her two sons; mother Ruth and sister Liza, sisters Elizabeth, Catherine and Christina, brothers Rodger, Terry and David.

Dee will be greatly missed but as we mourn her passing, let her memorial be the blessed memories of all the good times we spent together.
