Foy L. Cates, age 91, passed away in the arms of his wife and surrounded by his family, at his home in Comanche, Texas.

He was born on November 4, 1923, at "The Bend" in Llano County, Texas, to Levi Lafayett Cates and Janie Lucy (Massey) Cates. On November 12, 1946, he married the love of his life, Rose Riewe in Hamilton County.

Foy served his country honorably as a Marine in World War II in the South Pacific, and later in the Reserves. After being discharged from the Marine Corps he ranched and worked for the United States Government in Washington DC. He left Washington and moved to California, where he was a Master Barber for twenty-five years. After he retired he moved to Comanche. For over fifty years Foy was a Mason. He was a past worshipful Master of San Dieguito Lodge No. 775 F&AM at Cardiff by the Sea in California, a member of Hope Lodge No. 481 in Comanche, as well as a Scottish Rite in Texas.

During his lifetime he was a business owner and rancher. He was always quick-witted and humorous and a loyal friend. He never met a stranger. He loved to play golf and was an avid reader. He was a life-long Christian.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Rose Cates of Comanche; sister, Iva Dell Hufstutler of Ingram; nephew, Billy Cates and niece, Mary Jo Lawson. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; three brothers; six brothers-in-law; two nieces and one nephew.

VISITATION: Family will receive friends at Comanche Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-7 p.m.
FUNERAL SERVICES: 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel.
BURIAL: White Point Cemetery in Comanche County.
