Our beloved Ray passed away suddenly on Memorial Day. It was just like him to pick a day we would never forget, as if we ever could.

Ray was preceded in death by so many friends, and most recently his precious cat CeCe.

He was an Artist, Musician, Collector and lover of Music. His belongings mirrored the grace and beauty of his soul. He was born in Redding, and grew up in Sacramento. Ray graduated from Foothill HS in 1974, received his certificate in Graphic Design from UCD in 1997. He worked for The Sacramento Bee for 27 years. He was very proud of achieving Eagle Scout and has remained friends with many from his troop and classmates alike. He is survived by his proud, loving parents Pati and Roy Ward; sister Keary and bro-in-law Greg Fernald; nephews Jake Reynolds SST USAF Active duty and Mathew; nieces Shannon Morton and Aubrey Fernald; sister Kelly Ward; nephew Darek (his 'go to' for the Zombie apocalypse), and niece Emily Rae (Lil Crak). Raymundo Shine was the absolute best bro, son and uncle. If he was your friend, you knew it. Absolutely nothing can fill the black hole left in our hearts, but memories of his love will sustain us.

'When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.' - Khalil Gilbran

Please join us for a reunion of family and friends at Roy and Pati's home in Foothill Farms on Sunday, June 1st at 1:00 pm ([email protected]). Check Ray's Facebook for information. Please send donations to Sacramento CARES Organization in Ray's name.
