One of the first actresses to gain acclaim after the advent of sound motion pictures ("talkies"), she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as 'Linda Seton' in the 1930 movie "Holiday", which also featured actress Mary Astor and actor Edward Everett Horton.
