Leopoldo Gonzalez-Abreu y Caragol was born in Cuba in 1914. He was shot and gravely wounded in 1933 by henchman of dictator Machado. He afterward moved to reside with his uncle Alberto in St. Louis, Mo. He joined the U.S. Army during W.W. II. In 1958, he was an officer in the Second Front of Escambray guerrillas fighting against dictator Fulgencio Batista. He went into exile in Miami in 1960 when Fidel Castro established a dictatorship.
