Cuban Exile Leader. Avila, was a pediatrician and militant Cuban exile leader. Though he originally supported the Cuban revolution, he became disillusioned and fled to Miami with his family. Mr. Avila was arrested or accused for a number of crimes, including being the mastermind behind the 1976 bombing of a Cuban airliner in which 73 people were killed; though he was later acquitted, he did spend time in jail for other reasons.
