United States Supreme Court Associate Justice. Born in Dakota County, Minnesota, He was educated at Carleton College and admitted to the bar in 1888. He served as Ramsey County Attorney (1892-96), as President of the Minnesota State Bar Association. (1912-22) and specialized in railroad law winning approximately $12,000,000 for the Toronto Street Railway shareholders. Nominated to United States Supreme Court by President Warren G. Harding in December 1922, he served as a Associate Justice until he died in Washington D.C. at the age of 73.
