Businessman. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Beach was born Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt. Known as 'the father of the tiki restaurant' he started the popular style of restauarant called Don the Beachcomber in 1933. The restaurant also opened other chains throughout the United States during the 1940s and 1950s. Beach was also repsonsible for a Zombie cocktail served with rum, that he first served as the New York World's Fair in 1939. A veteran of World War II, he served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Air Corps. For his help setting up camps for the 12th and 15th Air Forces, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Beach passed away in Honolulu, Hawaii, in June 1989, at the age of 81.
