Born Elsie Lorraine McKay. Daughter of Lester Martin Mckay, Capt. Salvation Army and Elsie Ammanda Smith. Was married to John Hauck prior to entry in AWAAC.(Hawks?). She married William Thomas Pickett between 1945 and 1952. Divorced and married Phillip Hewett, til his death in 1977. Member of Woman's Army Corps USA during WW2. Died in a VA hospital after several years of illness. Called "Sarge" by many, referring to her highest rank. She was a camara repair woman and then a drill sergeant. Lost rank due to bad behaviour, honourably discharged without loss of time.
