Marine Capt Beaupre was assigned to the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron —268, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Camp Pendleton, Calif. Beaupre died in a helicopter crash in Kuwait. He was remembered as a brave soldier who gave up a corporate job to pursue a higher calling in the military. He was also remembered as a sensitive, spiritual man, a person who worried about Iraqi casualties and searched for a church on Sundays. Ryan was known for his unruly red hair and easy smile. He was the type to surrender his turn on the phone to other Marines with wives and children back home. Family stories of Ryan are told, such as the time he lost a job at a grocery store because he knocked over a cash register while doing handstands, and how he would irritate a sister by always rushing her out the door in the morning. Beaupre was a graduate of Bishop McNamara High School and Illinois Wesleyan University; joining the Marine Corps in 1995.
