Ralph W. Herron, 88, died Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the Shepherd’s Center, Cimarron.
He was born March 10, 1928 on the family farm in Gray County, Kansas the son of Samuel and Edna (Spalding) Herron. He was a lifetime Gray County resident and a graduate of Cimarron High School. He farmed in Gray County most of his life.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Cimarron and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid collector.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On September 2, 1960 he married Alta Maxine Maphet Bailey at Haysville, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 11, 1998.
Survivors include: 3 sons, Wayne Herron and wife Cathy, Jetmore, Steve Ragon and wife Jan, Norman, Oklahoma and Allen Bailey and wife Janie, Windom, Kansas; 2 daughters, Deloris O’Grady and husband Bud, Cimarron and Elaine Marcotte, Bentley, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Marsha Bailey, Cimarron; 3 sisters, Vera Robertson, Meade, Wilma Hall, Tacoma, Washington and Beverly Brassfield, Braggs, Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gary Bailey, 5 brothers, Don, Roy, Joe, Ellis and Robert Herron, 2 sisters, Ella Mae Vail and Colleen Nutter and 2 grandchildren, Mike Bailey and Talea Lizabeth Ragon.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, Cimarron, with Rev. Richard Deimund officiating. Burial will follow in the Cimarron Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Cimarron.
