Oklahoma Governor. Born near Marion, Kentucky, he was admitted to the Kentucky Bar in 1887 and joined his older brother's law firm in 1891, at Ardmore, Oklahoma Indian Territory. He also became president of the Ardmore National Bank and helped finance developers which enhanced the State’s economy. In 1911, he was elected the 2nd Governor of Oklahoma, serving until 1915. While in office, he organized the State militia, established the Oklahoma Department of Highways, was responsible for the preparation of the State budget, a member of several boards and agencies, with the duty of seeing that all laws are faithfully executed in the State. After leaving the Governorship, he continued his career as a lawyer and banker through out Oklahoma. He died at age 69 in Los Angeles, California.
