Born Santo Campagna as the oldest of seven children of Ernest and Gugliemina Campagna. Emmigrated from Italy to the United States at ten years old through Ellis Island in 1927. Enlisted in the U.S. Army following graduation from Syracuse University in 1941 with a degree in Journalism. Fought throughout Europe as an infantry officer. Later, due to his ability to speak and write fluently in five different languages, he volunteered and served in the Intelligence Corps. Lieutenant Colonel Camp served 10 years of active duty and 17 in the Reserve component retiring in 1969. He worked for many years with the Traveller's Insurance Company in Syracuse, Long Island, and Albany, NY. He was pre-deceased in 1993 by his loving wife Viginia Blass Camp. He was known throughout Saratoga Springs as the unofficial Mayor of the city and simply as "The Colonel". Active in local politics and charities he had the capacity to make everyone feel they were his best friend and his generosity of spirit, time, talent, and treasure knew no bounds. He was awarded the National Community Action Service Award in 2006 for his volunteer efforts in local Soup Kitchens and other worthy causes. He was a regular visitor to the Navy Medical Clinic in Saratoga Springs giving guidance and encouragement to the Sailors and staff there for many years. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and cut a dashing figure, as if a throwback from a classic movie.

The Colonel is survived by his son Bill and his wife Vickie, his daughter Barbara, a sister Vincenza, and brothers Edward, Anthony, Pasquale, and John Campagna, several sisters-in-law and and many nieces and nephews.
