Herbert F. Stonehocker was born to Samuel and Grace (Travis) Stonehocker on Jan. 26, 1914 at Drummond, Oklahoma. He married Elva Dorothy Womble on Aug. 15, 1937. Four children were to become a part of this union. Their names being Herbert F. Jr., Kathryn A., Carol J., and Dorothy G.
Herb began his working career as a milk delivery boy in Enid, Oklahoma. He would later open his first grocery store in the same town. He would later moved to the Lawton, Oklahoma area where he would eventually own a chain of grocery stores that covered areas in the southwestern portion of Oklahoma and areas of Texas.

He entered the grocery business in 1945 in Enid. In 1952, he moved to Lawton and opened a grocery store at North Sheridan Road and Cache Road. He expanded his business to include a number of stores before his retirement in 1983.
He was a member of the Lawton Country Club. He was a former member of AMBUCS and had once served on the Lawton Airport Authority. Mr. Stonehocker died Saturday in a Lawton hospital.
