Barbara Jean Curtis, 70, of Hazel Green, passed away on Tuesday at a local hospital.

She was well-known in the community for her home cooking, especially her homemade biscuits. She owned and operated the Village Corner Restaurant in Hazel Green for for a number of years. Jean was very much a people person who loved her friends and family. She never met a stranger and enjoyed talking and visiting with others, making people laugh, family genealogy, and was an avid Alabama football fan. Over the course of her life, she impacted the lives of many people because of her kindness, friendliness, and generosity.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Edd Curtis; Her two infant siblings, Edna and Goodrich; Her sisters, Gaye Gilbert and Brenda Flowers; Her parents, Connie and Georgia Smith;

Surviving family members include her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy & Clarence Hatfield; Her son, Darrin Joe Curtis; Her son, Dustin Jefferson Curtis; Her granddaughter, Leigh Ann Douglas and her grandson-in-law, Daniel Douglas; Her two great-grandchildren, Gavin & Ashtyn Douglas; Her brothers, George Smith, Bobby (Barbara) Smith, Edward Smith, Jimmy Smith, & Jackie (Janice) Smith; Her sister, Ann Durham. Jean is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5 until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 2pm at the funeral home with Pastor Jason Parks & Pastor Edward Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery.
