Died at the residence of his Elm Point home, February 1st. 1881, Robert Armstrong, of Lung fever, aged seventy four years, four months and four days. The subject of this sketch was born in the state of Georgia, September 28, 1806, and with his parents came to Tennessee in his infancy, where he resided until his majority, when he came to this county in 1830, with his parents, having been a resident of Bond County for 50 years, he made a profession of religion at the age of eighteen and joined the Presbyterian Church and holding fast his profession, being strictly true to his principals and doctrines of the church until his master bid him come up higher. On November 13, 1834, he was married to Nancy E. Sawrey who lived but a short time being the mother of one child, who died October 1, 1836. He was again married to Amelia Sawrey, a sister of the former wife, who died January 20, 1866, she being the mother of thirteen children, ten of whom survived their father, all reaching their majority. January 23, 1873, he again married to Mathilda Phillips who is the mother of three, father Armstrong was a man of decisive character, strict in family discipline but governing in tenderness, and it could be said raised a highly respectable family.
