Olympic Athlete, Professional Football Player. He was born Glenn Ashby Davis in Wellsburg, West Virginia and raised in Barberton, Ohio. He was a three-time gold medalist in Olympic track and field competition. His notable accomplishments include 1st place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at the 1956 games in Melbourne, 1st place finish in the 400-meter hurdles and 1st place finish in the 1,600-meter relay at the 1960 games in Rome. Davis held several world records and received the Sullivan Award as the top American amateur athlete in 1958. In addition, he played at the wide receiver position for two seasons (1960 to 1961) in the National Football League with the Detroit Lions, appearing in 12 career games. His athletic versatility earned him an appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1960. He was inducted into the USA Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1974, the Ohio State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1978 and the US Olympic Hall of Fame in 1986.
