Daughter of Andrew J. and Martha (Rowan) Phillips. She was married first to Owen Brooks on March 2, 1876 in Scotland County, Missouri. Baptist minister John W. Kittle of Johnson Twp. officiated. They were parents of one daughter, Amanda Elizabeth. The marriage must have been ended by divorce or annulled, as Mary remarried in the 80's. Mary was married to William Archer Hamlett, son of David and Margaret (Harris) Hamlett, in Scotland County, Missouri on April 25, 1881. They lived on a farm at Elkport, Clayton County, Missouri (now called Lemons) where they resided until his death in 1907. Mary spent her last years living with her children. William and Mary Hamlett had three children; Ellen Effamy Hamlett, Jackson Hamlett, and Edgar Hamlett.
