William T. Jane was born in England in October of 1874. His parents were both born in England as well. William married Jennie A. Davisson, around the time of the 1900 census.

William and Jennie were living at 2566 California Street in San Francisco, CA. He was 25 and working as a streetcar conductor.

By the time of the 1910 Federal Census William and Jennie were living at 2647 Ashby Avenue in Berkeley, CA. The couple had two children: Jane Serrita Jane (born 3 July, 1901) and Mabel E. Jane (born abt. 1907). William was at that time employed at the university (University of California Berkeley?) as an assistant professor. William's brother-in-law, William H. Davisson, was living with them and working as a zoological assistant at the university.

In 1920, census records show that the family was once again living in San Francisco on 9th Avenue. William was an "apparatus salesman." Daughter Jane Serrita Jane was 18 years old and working at the University of California hospital in the laboratory. Daughter Mabel E. Jane was 13 years old at this time.
