OBITUARY:

SUFFOLK COUNTY NEWS
Sayville, Suffolk Co., NY
28 August 1925

William M. Alford, a retired silk merchant, who had been a resident of Sayville for the past six years, died of heart trouble at his residence on Candee avenue, this village, at about eight o’clock on Sunday evening.

He had been in poor health for several years, and was confined to the house and under the care of trained nurses for many weeks, but apparently grew better, and was able to drive about the village until within a few days before his death.

He was born in New York City 67 years ago, but for many years was a resident of Brooklyn. He had long been a member of the Manhattan Club of New York and of the Riding and Driving Club, the Crescent Athletic Club, and the Montauk Club, of Brooklyn, and when in health was a very active member of the Sayville Golf Club.

His wife, Marie L. Alford, died eight years ago.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Wilson Stephenson, of Brooklyn, and three sons, Kenneth W. Alford, of Brooklyn, Donald C. Alford, of Greenwich, Conn., and William R. Alford, of Port Washington.

Funeral services were held at Greenwood Cemetery, where the interment took place at three o’clock on Wednesday afternoon, August 26th, and the remains were laid at rest beside his wife, and his son. Thomas K. Alford, who died at his home adjoining that of his father, on April 29th, last.
