Louis Baugh was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania on August 3rd 1829. As a young man he was very interested in The Military. He joined The "Washington Grey's" before enlising in "The Philadelphia City Troop", a pre-war militia unit. In 1861 he recieved a position as 1st Lt of The 23rd Pennsylvania Volunteers, Company G (Three Months Regiment.) He enlisted on April 21st 1861. The Regiment was sent down toward baltimore before being placed in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. In July the Regiment was engaged at The Battle of Falling Waters against Col. Thomas J (Later Stonewall) Jackson. The Three month Volunteers were mustered out on July 31st 1861 in Philadelphia. Though he did not re-enlist, Louis was one of the first volunteers from the city of Philadelphia to offer his services to President Abraham Lincoln. He returned and remained in the city until his death in 1894.
