Roxanne introduced herself to us in 2003 by following our dog, Lucky, on our walks. We thought she was a neighborhood cat. After a year, we posted flyers around the area, wanting to meet her owners. When no one responded, we supposed that she was homeless....however she had already selected her family....us!

After we had her spayed, she liked to stay close to home and hang out with us, no matter what we were doing. We used to joke and said she was our "3rd Sister".

She loved Chi-Chi and was crushed when he died. However, we adopted another homeless black cat, Ziva, and they became inseparable.

On December 3, 2013, she did not respond when we called her for breakfast. We found her in her favorite chair on the patio, having passed away peacefully in her sleep, with Frankie Lee (the cat we found walking with Chi-Chi after his first companion, Mario, was adopted by someone else) and Mamma Kitty (the neighborhood feral cat) sitting vigil until we came outside.

Our vet had guessed that she was about 2 years old when we first adopted her, but her graying hair in later years suggested she was closer to 14 or 15 when she left us. He was almost positive it was heart failure that caused her death.

She was such a presence in our lives, that we hadn't realized how many concessions we made for her: where and what to feed her, where she liked to sit, and so on.

She is immortalized forever on Twitter as the avi-cat for Conservatives & Others For Animals (@COFA4), to push for animal advocacy among conservative politicians.

When we only had Lucky and Angel-Ah, she was obviously the youngest, so we always called her "Baby Roxanne"...and did so until her dying day. She chose us, and we're so glad she did!
