Armandina Gubbiotti was born three months after her biological father, Armando, died in an industrial accident at the Ford Motor Company plant in Dearborn, Michigan.

She attended Wayne State University in Detroit, but was unable to finish due to circumstances involving WWII. She began working at 14 and taught herself bookkeeping and ultimately working her way up to comptroller of a small oil and gas exploration firm in Houston.

She married Ed Zak on June 11, 1955 and raised two daughters. She was a very wise person and people would often go to her for advice. She kept in touch with people she grew up with and worked with years after she moved on to other companies. Her former subordinates remembered her as a great boss and wonderful friend.

Our wonderful mother passed away at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital on January 25, 2012. Though she had not been well, her passing was rather unexpected as she was scheduled to be released the next day. She had just sent me to Kroger's for chickens (because they were on sale) to make chicken soup for her upon her return home. The hospital called me while I was in the check-out line to hurry and return to the hospital. Sadly, I arrived there 10 minutes too late, though we had a long talk the night before and nothing was left unsaid...including how much we loved each other.

She was buried in a beautiful mahogany coffin with the ashes of our father (only wood for dad, the master craftsman) and also the ashes of her faithful kitty, Angel-Ah.

Dina loved her garden, her family, her pets, the playing the stock market, and of course, Las Vegas. She was a force of nature and we all miss her very much.
