Bette was born to John and Mary Merrilees. She had worked at Evansville Shipyards during World War II on the telephone switchboard. She then stayed home to raise her two children and later worked in the Dietary Department of Deaconess Hospital. After retiring, it was her joy to be with her grandchildren and work in the Deaconess Childcare Center rocking the babies. She was a kind and generous friend with the gift of hospitality. Bette was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and attended the Euvenice Bible Class.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Toni Brinson, both of Evansville; her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Bob Walther; six grandchildren, R. J., Charles, and Ross Walther; Carrie Brinson-Bell; Leslie Velez; and Alex Brinson; and great-grandchildren, Cohen Bell and Reed Walther.

She married John Brinson in 1946 and Paul French in 1978, both of whom preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by brothers James and Robert Merrilees.

The family would like to thank her caretakers, Tammy Benton and Sue Lynn.
