Charlie was rescued from the Shreveport Animal Control March 14, 1993. He had been there for weeks, and they were ready to put him down because no one wanted him. When we saw him for the first time, it was love at first sight.
When I went to pick him up from the shelter, Charlie came running out as fast as he could, slipping and sliding all over the floor, trying to make his "Great Escape".
We thought about a name for him for weeks, and finally decided since his previous live was such a mystery, and the way he loved to investigate everything, his name became Charlie Chan. Charlie moved in with us, and really took over. It was Charlie's house, and we just lived with him.
Everyone loved Charlie, and you could tell by the way when we walked him, when all the neighbors knew him even if we didn't know them.
Charlie was stubborn, and hard-headed, but that was what made him so special.
Charlie had to be put on medicine for his allergies, and unfortunatly that was what did him in. He developed Hoskins disease after all the years of taking steroids and developed a serious liver condition.
On May 14, 2003 Charlie's kidneys failed, and he had to be put down. We held him as he "went to sleep", and helped him "cross the bridge".
Charlie is the reason we love our Shih Tzu's so much.
We love you Charlie, and always will.
