Kentucky Governor. He worked as a teacher and surveyor in Kentucky, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1810 and established his legal career in Russellville, Kentucky. He was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives, (1811-15) and was Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky, (1828-32). In 1832, he was elected as a Democrat the 11th Governor of Kentucky, serving until his death from tuberculosis at age 47. While in office, he advocated for a state level policy of the guiding principles of President Jackson's national administration and the Louisville Bank of Kentucky was commissioned. Shortly after his death, Breathitt County, Kentucky, was created and named in his honor.
