Saint of Catholic Religion. A native of Persia where he was presumably born in the third century AD, he was known by the name of Abdus. Historically his name is associated with that of San Sennen with whom he was martyred in Rome around 251 AD. He was translated to Rome along with others and here he dedicated his life to the assistance of persecuted Christians. According to some historians, Abdon suffered martyrdom during the era of the emperor Decius, even if the thesis of Diocletian's period is more accredited. The legend tells that he was fed to the wild beasts and that he tamed them. He was then brutally killed by the gladiators. His remains are buried in the Basilica of San Marco Evangelista in Rome since 1474 as evidenced by an original writing kept in the Vatican archives.
