Marabel passed away at age 87 December 26,2008. She lived alone in a house on a street overrun by the criminal element, which included drugs and shootings. She was the only person living on her street. Her problem came to light when she called WJBK Fox 2 Detroit in July, 2008. "If I scream, who's going to hear me?" she asked the reporter. Despite her living conditions, she was afraid to leave her home, so she stayed there, until she passed away of natural causes. Her body was stored in the Wayne County Morgue for over 4 months, unclaimed. When Fox 2 updated the her story, many people came forward to offer funds to give her a proper burial, which happened May 21, 2009.
