Indianapolis Times - Monday December 31, 1928:

Walter Snyder, beloved son of Rev. Frank L. Snyder, formerly of Southport but now in Siam (now Thailand); brother of Mrs. Mabel Huff, F. L. Snyder of Cleveland, Ohio, and LeRoy Snyder of Chicago; nephew of Anna L. Moore and James E. Snyder of Indianapolis, departed this life Friday, December 28, in California. Funeral notice later. Indianapolis Star - Monday, December 31, 1928:

Word has been received by Indianapolis relatives of the accidental death of Prof. Walter Snyder of Leland Stanford University, former Wabash College student and for a number of years a resident of Southport. Details of the accident were not given.

Prof. Snyder was a son of the Rev. and Mrs. Frank L. Snyder, formerly of Southport and now missionaries in Siam. Prof Snyder was born in 1895 in Bangkok, Siam. He attended gracd school and high school in Wooster, Ohio, and took his freshmen work in Wooster College where was a pledge of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He transferred to Wabash College with withdrew at the outbreak the World War to enter the engineering service with the Canadian forces. Later he as in the aviation service. He was wounded three times.

Returning to this country in ill health, Prof, Snyder entered the University of Arizona and was graduated in 1921. The next year, he went to the University of Oregon as an instructor in English. Three years ago, he accepted a post at Leland Stanford University in the department of English. He also was a short story writer.

He is survived by the widow and parents; two brothers, Leroy Snyder of Chicago and Leonard Snyder of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Mael Huff of Cleveland; and an uncle, J. Edgar Snyder of Indianapolis; and an aunt, Mrs. Joseph Moore, of Indianapolis.

PALO ALTO, Dec. 28 -- (AP) -- Walter W. Snyder, 34, a graduate student in English at Stanford University and a Canadian war veteran, was electrocuted in the bathtub of his home here today, December 28, when he attempted to disconnect an electric heater plug.

He was a former member of the faculty at the University of Oregon and received degrees at the University or Arizona and California. During the war, he served overseas with the Canadian forces and was wounded.

An inquest will be held tomorrow. Snyder is survived by a widow, Katherine K., also a graduate of the University of Oregon. He is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. F. L. Snyder of Cheyenne, Wyoming, now doing missionary work in Siam.
