Musician. A guitarist, he was born Djalma de Andrade ("Bola Sete" means "7 Ball"), and came to California in 1959 from Brazil. Discovered by jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie while playing at the Sheraton Hotel in San Francisco, California, he quickly established himself as a virtuoso musician, recording with his own group, as a solo artist, and paired with pianist Vince Guaraldi. Rock guitarist legend Carlos Santana once said that he is as significant as Jimi Hendrix and Andreas Segovia in the sense of having wisdom, knowledge, soul and passion.
