Singer. A noted vocalist of the Big Band era, she performed with leading ensembles on both sides of the Atlantic. Raised within the show business milieu, Beryl began singing in public with her father's band at around three and by 12 was headlining and touring with jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli's Hot Club of France. During World War II she joined pianist George Shearing and others entertaining at such London venues as were still open and was to appear a number of times with Glenn Miller and his Army Air Force Band. Beryl made her silver screen bow with 1946's "London Town" and in 1947 was invited to America to sing on Bob Hope's radio show. In 1948 she was called upon to replace Doris Day on Frank Sinatra's "Your Hit Parade" and into the 1950s she sang with such noted Big Band leaders as Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman. During the 1950s Beryl joined Jane Russell, Connie Haines, and Della Russell to form the popular group The Four Girls who appeared widely and scored a hit with their recording of "Do Lord". Thru the 1960s she was kept busy with live appearances and was seen on television occasionally; long a star in the nightclub world, in 1974 Beryl began performing on Princess Lines' cruise ships singing such standards as "Sophisticated Lady", "When the World Was Young", and "Baby Baby All the Time". A resident of Southern California from the 1940s on, Beryl remained active as a performer well into advanced age; she died of the effects of Alzheimer's Disease leaving a significant recorded legacy preserved throughout her career.
