Dancer of the Paris Opera. Born in Marseilles Marie entered the Theatre at an early age. Her mother died soon after and Marie moved to Lyon. At fourteen she went to Paris where she studied with Gaetan Vestris and made her debut at the Opera in 1760. She was equally good in comic and tragic ballets. One of her biggest successes was in Sylvia, a comic ballet in which she danced the title role. Another of her successes was the tragic Medea by Jean George Noverre.
Allard was the mistress of Gaetan Vestris and the mother of Auguste Vestris, said to be one of the greatest male dancers of all time.
Marie retired from the ballet in 1781, having become too fat to dance.
