Josephine Bell was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma on March 7, 1916. In the early 1940s, she relocated to Fresno, CA. She joined the Fellowship Baptist Church family in 1958. She served on the usher board, in the choir, and belong to the Esther Circle.
Josephine was well-known in the West Fresno community through the family business. She worked alongside her sister in Rosalee's Chicken Shack off and on for many years. Josephine will be missed by her daughter, Erma Whitaker; her granddaughters, Valda McCray and Adrienne Williams, and Grandsons, Kevin Gomez and Stephen Sims; and a host of other great-grandchildren, family and friends.
Our Granny --
We all knew her as Granny, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even other family members and friends caught on to the name.
Granny loved her family! There wasn't anything that anyone could ask for that Granny wouldn't try to help with. Whether she was handing you a dollar to run to the store to buy your favorite candy, or helping you put a little somethin' on your late phone bill, Granny would be there. She had a spirit of giving, and she gave of herself endlessly.
Granny has not only touched the lives of her family, but of my friends as well. From RosaLee's Chicken Shack to Fellowship Baptist Church, Granny is remembered.
Pallbearers: Derrick Payne, Charles McDonald, Steven McCray, Henry Williams, Jr., Jason McCray, Toney McCray II and Robert McCray.
Service entrusted to the care of Jesse E. Cooley Jr. Funeral Service, Inc., 1830 South Fruit Avenue, Fresno, CA
