1691–1754, English publisher. He founded (1731) the Gentleman's Magazine, the first modern magazine in English. Cave gave Samuel Johnson his first regular literary employment when he printed (1741–44) Johnson's parliamentary reports, “Debates in the Senate of Magna Lilliputia,” in his periodical. Later Cave published other works by Johnson.
