Ben Bakker went to his heavenly home on April 4, 2016. He was born in Nijimegen, Holland, coming to America at six years of age. He was a graduate of White Plains High School in White Plains, New York. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. He obtained a master's degree in Education at Central Missouri State in Missouri. He met his wife, Polly, at the University of Arkansas- Fayetteville. He worked for Gosnell, AR Public Schools; Arkansas Department of Education- Chapter One; Monette, AR Public Schools; Armorel, AR Public Schools and Mount Vernon- Enola, AR Public Schools. He served as a teacher, principal and Superintendent at Mount Vernon- Enola Public Schools.
He was a charter member of Grace United Methodist Church; Grace Methodist Men: Member of First United Methodist Church where he served as Usher Captain and Food Pantry Club. He was an avid supporter of Arkansas Razorback Alumni Club. He was an active member of the Faulkner County Retired Teachers and Lion Club.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents; Peter and Elisabeth Bakker and brother, Harry Bakker. He is survived by his loving wife; Polly Bakker and his children Brooke Bakker Capron (Robert) of Fort Smith, Ethan, Rebecca, and Andrew; Elisabeth Anne (Betsey) Bakker of Conway, AR, Christopher and Catie; and Peter Bakker, brother, Daytona Beach, Florida; Dave Abbott (Gloria), brother-in-law of Jonesboro; Fannora Gardner, mother-in-law of Jonesboro and numerous family members.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm on April 7th to be followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Conway, AR. It will be followed by his burial at 3:00 pm at Oak Grove Cemetery in Conway.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
