He was killed by a guard along with Roy Thornton as they were trying to escape Eastham Farm Prison. Austin was serving a sentence for participating in the escape of Raymond Hamilton, Joe Palmer and others in 1934.
Austin was the son of Heinrch Ludwig (Emanuel) Avers (1876-1935)and Luetta Wilelmine Meinke (1880-1935).
