CLINTON, LA - A native of Sailes/Gibsland and a resident of Clinton for the past 52 years, he died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007 after a long illness complicated by post-polio syndrome. He was born October 16, 1916. He was the son of Wyatt Elmo and Lillian B. Murphy Pullig.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachael Jones Pullig in May 1972, second wife, Mittie McLean Jackson Pullig, who died July 2006; and brothers, Robert Gordon Pullig, who was of Minden and Wyatt Clayton Pullig, who was of Jamestown. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Lillian Pullig Schatz, M.D. and husband Walter F. Schatz of Nashville, TN; Rachael Virginia "Ginger" Pullig Breithaupt and husband Jack of Springfield, TN and Whitehall; and Elizabeth Ann Pullig Hitt and husband Joe D. Hitt of Baton Rouge; step-daughters, Patricia Jackson Peay and husband William Randall Peay of Clinton; Sara Jean Jackson of Houston and Nancy Jackson Williamson and husband Bill of Columbia, TN and step-son, Paul Jackson Jr., M.D. of Clinton; a brother, Waylund Pullig of Shreveport; grandchildren: Rachael Virginia, Robert Lyle Murphy, Mason David and John Tucker Hitt, all of Baton Rouge, Web and Katy Fiddick Breithaump, David and Rhonda Smart Schatz and Douglass Schatz, Amanda and Brad Hofstetter, Lydia Camille and Clark Murray, Sara Williamson and Mike Sutphin, Ginny Williamson and Dave Pollack; great-grandchildren: Conner and Ava Schatz, Will Hofstetter, Jonathan and Paul Sutphin and Jackson and Charlotte Pollack. His trusted and attentive health-givers were Emerson Williams, Mae Ella Nelson, Georgia Mae Knighten, Janie Hills, Yvonne Mattheews, Aprilet Roberts, Amanda Westmore, Clarence Daniel, Lucille Daniel, Hospice Care of Louisiana and Feliciana Home Health.

He was a member and elder of Clinton Presbyterian Church (PSUSA).

He was a graduate of Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, Ruston, LSU, master's of science 1939, and Gradwohl School for Medical Technology 1940-41 and Louisiana State Medical School in New Orleans, class of 1954. He held positions as instruction in the biology department at Louisiana tech in 1939 and an associate professor of biology at Louisiana Tech from 1939-1950. A general practice physician, Dr. Pullig practiced in Clinton for the Clinton Infirmary from 1955-1976, LSU Clinic, Baton Rouge; and an East Feliciana Parish at East LouisianaState Hospital and Villa Geriatric Hospital, both in Jackson. he served as president of American Medical Technologists,1947-1948; and was awarded its highest honor, The Order of the Golden Microscope. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi in 1955, AMA, Louisiana State Medical Society, Louisiana Academy of Family Practice from 1955-1998, awarded the Emeritus title in 1999, president of the Louisiana Academy of Family Practice for two years and member of the Bi-Parish Medical Society (East and West Feliciana Parishes) from 1955-2000.

Visitation at Clinton Presbyterian Church, Bank Street, Clinton on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the church on Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 9:30 a.m. until service at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Masonic Cemetery, Clinton.

Pallbearers will be Richard D. Pullig, Charles Pullig, Chevis Jackson, McLean Jackson, Gary A. Smith, Wm Randall Peay, and James T. Hamic.
