Died 3 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 1993, in Clinton. He was 59, a native of Baton Rouge and resident of Clinton. He was employed with The Louisiana State University Cooperative Extension Service for over 35 years. He was an East Feliciana Parish County Agent for over 22 years. He served during Korean Conflict in U.S. Army.

Visiting at Charlet Funeral Home, Clinton, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday. Visiting at Clinton Presbyterian Church, 1 p.m. to religious services at 2 p.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Ted Roeling and the Rev. Chuck Smith. Burial in Masonic Cemetery, Clinton.

Survived by wife, Sandra Pratt Samson, Clinton; two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Clay M. "Matt" Samson Jr. and Nancy Allgood Samson, University Presbyterian Church, Tuscaloosa, Ala., James R. "Rick" Samson and Amy Vidrine Samson, Baton Rouge; a brother, Joseph Richard Samson Jr., Antioch, Ill.; grandchildren, Jessica and Hannah Samson, Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Clayton Richard Samson, Baton Rouge.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Kay Samson; parents, Joseph R. and Janie Jones Samson.

Pallbearers will be Jay Pratt, Judge William F. Kline Jr., Stanley J. Lamendola, Richard Guidry, Albert "Sonny" Guttzeit, Mark St. Amand, Brian Chandler, Ken Spoto and George Charlet Jr. Honorary pallbearers are members of Clinton Kiwanis Club, Farrell M. Roberts and Dr. John Piker.

He was a member of Clinton Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and clerk of the session. He was the president of Parents of Murdered Children. He organized and was a charter member and past-president of Clinton Kiwanis. He was past-moderator of Presbytery of South Louisiana. He was a member of Board of Trustees at Montreat Presbyterian Assembly of North Carolina and Board of Trustees Moranch Presbyterian Assembly Hunt, Texas. He was a member of Commission Lay Ministers of Presbytery of South Louisiana, past-member of Feliciana Retreat Center Committee, Presbyterian Church U.S.A., 1989 Honored Presbyter of Presbtery of South Louisiana. He was very active and supportive in Boy Scouts of America, having been presented District Award of Merit and Distinguished Silver Beaver Award. He was former Scout Master of Troop 60, Committee Chaiman Avondale District, S.M.E. Chairman, District Committee and Istrouma Area Council Executive Board. He was the co-organizer of Clinton Mens Prayer Breakfast, which has existed for over 20 years. He was a local board member of FEMA Food Program, East Feliciana Parish. He was co-organizer of Citizens for Better Schools-East Feliciana Parish. He was a member of East Feliciana and Louisiana Cattlemans Association, and Louisiana County Agents Association. He received the Distinguished Service Award at National County Agents Assocation Meeting. He was a member of Epsilon Sigma Phi Honorary Extension Professional Organization. He was Superintendent of Southeastern District Swine Show for over 15 years.
