Josef Varga was a Hungarian immigrant and my grandfather. The spelling of his name was Anglicized at Ellis Island. I never knew him, as he died in 1933, but I have visited his grave since childhood. He was a mill worker and, I am told, a loving and gentle father, and a very handsome man. He died under very sad circumstances, but the memory of his short but impressive life lives on through his children and grandchildren.
