Microbiologist. Dr. Hilleman pioneered the development of numerous vaccinations chicken pox, pneumonia, meningitis including (MMR) measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, Marek's Disease, and hepatitis A, both plasma-derived and recombinant hepatitis B. His measles vaccine alone is estimated to prevent 1 million deaths worldwide every year. He has been awarded a Special Lifetime Achievement Award given by the World Health Organization, The Alumni Medal for Lifetime Accomplishment from the University of Chicago, and a special award for Achievement and Legacy by the CDC Foundation.
