Mr. Hopkins was wounded aboard the U.S.S. Marblehead in February 1942. He was cared for by Dr. Wassel. In the movie "The Story of Dr. Wassel", he was the sailor that chose to stay behind instead of being evacuated. At the end of the movie they announce that he was still alive, information that was not available when the movie was completed. He was captured by the Japanese and spent three years and eight months as a prisoner of war. He retired from the Navy in 1962.
