As one of the first women Elly Beinhorn acqiured her pilot license in 1929. 1931: First Africa flight, she take air photos. 1932: Solo world surrounding trip (as the first woman in the world). 1933: Second Africa flight. 1934: Visit in America, she met Amelia Earhart. In 1935 she started from Gleiwitz (Gliwice)with destination Yesliköy (near Istanbul, Turkey). After 13,5 hours and 3470 km later she landed in Berlin. This record flight over two continents with a Messerschmitt aircraft named "Taifun" is of the reasons for her great popularity. 1936 she touched three continents during a flight from Damaskus (Syria) to Cairo (Egypt)and via Athens (Greece)to Berlin. In opposition to other female aviators she didn't joined the army during the World War II. After the war she continued her flight career with success at many fligt events. She got a lot of awards, in 2010 the German Mail issued a stamp in honour of Elly Beinhorn. Elly Beinhorn was married with the auto race car driver Bernd Rosemeyer (died in 1938 during a record race).
