Daniel Jay Allen was a blacksmith by trade. One of the mines in which he worked in Jasper County, Missouri, was the Lucky Tiger Mine. His first wife was Sarah Elizabeth Lemley Allen. He was the father of Mae Elizabeth Allen Decker, Lena Dale Allen Heberling, and William Jay Allen. He died too young of tuberculosis sustained while working in the mines.
