Mary Polly Collins was the daughter of John and Catherine Critcher Collins. In 1797 when she married in Rockingham Co. Va. her marriage permission was signed by her father John Collins. (meaning she was under the age of 18 in 1797) Mary Polly Collins married Mathias Moyer on May 23, 1797 in Rockingham County, Virginia. Mary and Mathias had at least 6 children, Sarah, Jacob, Cornelius, Mary, John and Wyley only 2 years old when Mathias died in April 1812, just 4 short months before his widow married again to Andrew Gass, on August 13, 1812, Gass was a man 13 years younger than her. He became the stepfather of children he was only a few years older than all the way down to the youngest who was only 2 when his mother married Andrew Gass. According to the bible of the Gass family Andrew and Mary had 5 children, Jane, Julia, Margaret, Andrew Powell and William Thomas Gass. Andrew Gass was a strict Christian man who in 1825 was called to the ministry. Mary Polly died first and when Andrew followed nine years later in 1859 according to Hopewell Cemetery records he was buried there as well.
