J. M. Fleming or John M. Fleming was the eldest son of John Hamilton and Rachel Homan Fleming. He was born in Pennsylvania and raised in Franklin and Coffee Counties of Tennessee. I do not know at what age John was when his parents moved to Tennessee from Pa but he is age 10 in the 1880 Franklin County, Tennessee census report. He has a brother, Harry aged 7 and Harry was born in TN so sometime between John and Harry's birth the family moved to TN. By a young adulthood John M. had already moved out on his own, married Eva Marie Steadman and had a daughter, Lillian, ran a laundry called Troy Street Laundry in Mobile, Alabama until the death of Eva in 1896 and leaving his little daughter w/ his parents he then moved to Floyd County Georgia as he is found in the 1900 census of Floyd County, Ga as a boarder aged 29, a widow and a laundry man. John later met Ethel Wilson and made her his second wife and moved to the Athens, GA area and opened a laundry there called Athens Empire Laundry. There are several letters written to John's parents, John H. and Rachel Fleming and Lillian from Ethel so Lillian stayed w/ her grandparents in TN instead of moving w/ her father and step mother to GA. There was a daughter for John M. and Ethel Fleming named Veta, born in 1903 however she died in 1906. There was another daughter, Jessie Mae born in 1905 just before the death of Veta. Later he must have come back to Tennessee for a while as he is found in 1910 living w/ his second wife of seven years, Ethel Wilson and their daughter Jessie Mae Fleming who is 4 years old. John's first wife Eva Marie Steadman is buried in the Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama. John died in 1912.
