Effie Mae was the daughter of Ervin Tish and Minnie Mae Sarah Elizabeth Jane "Minnie" Clem Brooks. She was born in Limestone County, Alabama and lived there with her parents and 8 siblings. They were Robert Clarence, Leona Susie, Robert "Bobbie" Lee, Mabel C, Ruby, George, Freddie, and David Gilbert Brooks. Her brother George died the day he was born and her brother Freddie died when he was 6 years old, brother Bobbie said that Freddie died from a ruptured appendix.
Effie married William T Boyd at a very early age, when she was 20 they lived in Flint, Michigan where William was a machine operator for Chevrolet. They had one child, a son. William preceeded Effie in death. Effie was also preceeded in death by her parents and brother Robert Clarence besides the two brothers she lost as a small child. It is said that when she was living in the nursing home in her final days she would get very angry at the nurses because they wouldn't let her have the one thing she loved to do so much...a "dip" of snuff.... not unusal for women of that era to enjoy a "dip" now and then.....
